When you’re looking for caregivers for your senior loved one, you want to know that the person who comes will be as compassionate as you.

You want to know that they will be treated like family. And not just on paper. That they really will.

This is where character comes in. This is where the people behind a business matter.

If you want to know what a company is like, you look at the leadership. And we knew Wisdom Senior Care shared our values when we met them. It was crystal clear that both CEO Carolyn Thurston and husband Charles, COO felt called to serve the way we did.

We quickly learned that Wisdom had the right priorities. They put hiring the right people as caregivers first. They require far more training than any other organization we looked into. They nurture a culture of respect and compassion in every relationship. And they always put God and Faith first.

And it’s all because they—and we—understand the immense impact that loving home care has on the seniors we serve.

Called to serve

Hi! We’re Vanessa and Whitney: best friends and business partners, and we lead the team over here at the South Charlotte Wisdom Senior Care.

Some would call us lucky to find our life’s calling. Some would say it’s chance to find a best friend who shares your passion for serving others and a business partner who perfectly complements your skills. We call it putting God first.

As long as we’ve put God first, we’ve found that no matter how life unfolds, we know we’re exactly where we’re meant to be. That He’ll see us through the path we’re supposed to be on.

That’s how our two paths came together to serve and bring joy to the seniors of the South Charlotte community.

Our paths led us to you

Hi, Vanessa here.

My path to serving goes all the way back when I was eight years old. My mom had sent me to help my aunt in Charlotte after a surgery. It was then she started calling me, “Little Nurse.” That was the first time I felt the joy of serving in health and home care.

From there, the medical field was a natural choice for me. Helping people on dialysis as their technician became my passion for 15 years, and those I worked with recognized it. In part, because I knew the impact that my work had: in dialysis, one mistake can be lethal. Managers would ask me to train others while patients would request me. My joy came from serving patients and helping them have the best quality of life they could with their condition.

It was through dialysis that I started working with the senior population. And they turned out to be my favorite patients. It’s very much like our company name—you can learn so much from the wisdom of the seniors you serve.

Which is why when Whitney asked me to be her partner to serve the seniors in the Charlotte area, it wasn’t a question.

Hi, I’m Whitney.

Somehow, I’ve always recognized that we never know how much someone has gone through…I guess you could call it my empathy superpower.

Which is probably why for my entire career—from when I worked in healthcare as a nurse’s assistant to working in hospitality, I found my joy from making people feel good.

I’ve found my greatest joy in uplifting those around me. They may arrive feeling down, but I can help lift them up. I believe it’s the purpose God gave me to fulfill.

That’s why I knew Vanessa would be the perfect person to serve the South Charlotte seniors with me. Her joy in life comes from serving, too.

Our friendship started in 2012, and since then we’ve cheered each other on, growing in our careers and as people.

Your legacy is how (and who) you serve
