Our History

WHEN YOU GROW UP
being a caregiver, you don’t even realize you are one

In my family, with both of my parents working, being the oldest girl with four siblings meant my role was to nurture, care and protect. I watched over my siblings around our Charlotte neighborhood. I made sure they came directly home from school, they were fed, chores were done, and they represented the family to the best of their ability, by always being respectful, especially to their elders.

When you grow up being a caregiver
you don’t know how much it shapes who you are

It took me years to realize I felt called to serve others through my work

So it was no surprise I was drawn to healthcare when I began my career. I started as an administrative assistant at Atrium Health (then Carolinas Healthcare System) in the physician recruiting department. Still, it did not take long for me to climb the corporate ladder.  After just a few years, I was managing a few hundred healthcare workers. That number eventually grew to over 500 —from physicians and surgeons to nurses and staff. It was then my work earned the attention of several Locum Tenens agencies with offers of promotion.  I made my choice, and accepted a position as a Director in Atlanta, Georgia.

After a few very successful years in Atlanta, Carolina was pulling on my heartstrings. So, I returned home to Charlotte,, and obtained a leadership position with Novant Health for three years, while  completing my MBA.   I took a short sabbatical  and accepted a leadership role at a community health center. I would often observe the staff’s poor interactions with patients, which led me to believe that there has to be a better way to serve people with more humility and compassionate care especially our elderly population who deserves the utmost respect care —especially our elderly population who deserves the utmost respect.

With every passing day, I developed a growing desire to work more directly with patients; But in order to accomplish a more direct line, I would have to trust my faithwalk, and become a business owner.  I decided to bring together my desire to serve,  along with the 20 plus years of healthcare recruiting and leadership experience, so I JUMPED into the Home Care business !

A

Shared desire to serve

Shortly after I jumped, I discovered Wisdom Senior Care when I began to explore licensure for operating a home care agency. What struck me was their commitment to “compassionate care”, and there it was (eyes wide open, staring right in my face)!  After giving all praise to my Lord and Savior, I was all in. Wisdom Senior Care not only sincerely cares for their (our) target market - Seniors; But their continuous commitment to aide in the success of their brand through their selective franchisees, by providing thorough acclimation to their tried and tested 19 years of best practices processes and procedures, and of course their culture which is based on five basic principles - Faith, Compassion, Commitment, Integrity and Loyalty.

I learned firsthand the impact that staying at home has on our seniors. When my dad was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, he continued living at home.  We lost our mother years earlier, so the family looked to me to ensure our father received the care he needed. Like my father, many of our parents and loved ones would rather be in familiar surroundings, in; whether they are in good or poor health, or living independently or in need of 24-hour assistance. They prefer to be at home as opposed to a facility. They live happier lives when they are given a choice.

In 2007, when my father had to choose to live out the remainder of his days in the hospice wing in the hospital or in the comforts of his home.  His wishes were clear,  he chose to be at home.  In fact, my dad lived two years longer than the doctors predicted.  It is difficult for families to accommodate an elderly loved one when you are far away, or already burdened with  responsibilities such as full-time work, kids, school schedules and extracurricular activities, planning family vacations or even simple weekend excursions, not to mention maintaining your own well-being. It can be very overwhelming.

That is why I'm so motivated by Wisdom Senior Care's mission. Wisdom places high priority on recruiting, hiring, and training caregivers who possess characteristics such as  integrity, compassion and commitment. Our entire focus is on helping our elders live their best lives, where they feel happy, cherished, and respected family. Which will give you, their family, a peace of mind.

Your legacy is what you do for others.
Leadership shapes a company.

It sets the standards for how employees treat each other and treat clients. That is how I knew I had found the right organization when I met Carolyn, CEO and President of Wisdom Senior Care, and her husband Charles, COO. They shared my passion for finding the right people to hire as caregivers. They prioritize a culture of respect and compassion in every relationship. And it’s because they understand how much enrichment home care brings to the elderly community.

And we make sure our caregivers also find that joy from their work. We make sure to pair the right caregivers with the right clients.

Our clients find renewed joy because compassionate people are looking out for them. At the end of their day, Wisdom caregivers go home feeling fulfilled from spending time with their clients. When our clients thank us with joy, they know that the feelings are mutual.

I believe that your legacy is what you do for others, and I’m honored by every opportunity we have to serve your loved ones in Charlotte/Huntersville and the surrounding area.
