I, Phillip, was born in Malaysia, and emigrated to The USA at the age of 18 and Winnie was born in China and immigrated to the USA at the age of 16. As a child growing, Winnie helped many seniors with companionship by offering some respite to close family friends. She did this as a volunteer among friends and family in the Triangle area. As both our families own various businesses, it was logical for us to start a business of our own. While we were both working in the corporate world in the daytime, we started a part-time marketing business in 1993, and the company expanded to China in 1995. We were traveling back and forth between Asia and the US for over 20 years.

In 2012, Winnie’s dad was diagnosed with COPD that required 24-hour oxygen supply, and also congestive heart failure plus diabetes. Winnie’s mom was burned out by taking care of her spouse by herself as we were in China. Winnie’s parents requested for us to come back to the US to stay with us so we can take care of them. The experience allowed Winnie’s dad to stay at home happily and safely.

As we have many family discussions on how to handle our parents in their 80s, we realized that there is a massive need in our community to help and support sandwiched generation. Between their elder parents and grandparents to care for, they have their kids as well. Most of them are stressed out and burned out.

Our family decided to start a business that would help other families that have similar situations in elder care. Besides our current family restaurant business and our ongoing marketing business, our family has decided to diversify into a market that can provide services that help seniors stay in their own home happily and with compassionate professional care. We chose to work with Wisdom Senior Care because it has shown a sustainable, successful model in the industry with happy clients.

Our Wisdom franchise #100 operates in Southern Wake County (Cary and surroundings) and Johnston County (Smithfield and its environs) to support seniors in the area. The mentorship from Wisdom Senior Care team have already helped us a lot, and we know that we will be able to increase our capacity to support many seniors in our area stay happy in the comfort of their homes, including our parents. We appreciate the opportunity to serve the community and to make seniors happy in their home.

WE UNDERSTAND CAREGIVING

Thankfully, through many years of proper business mentorship, our marketing business in Asia has thrived to this day and has allowed us to come back and in 2013 to help take care of our parents.

As our parents are all in their 80s (Phillip’s mom is 81, Winnie’s mom is 80 and dad is 83), we had suddenly come to grips that people grew old and had to deal with the end of life issues. We never had to think about that before. We also realized that there is only one guarantee, that our parents will progressively grow older (and so do we), and eventually will transit to heaven. The only thing we can do is to care for them and ensure that their quality of life is the best before the end of life. As we talk to many seniors in our community, most of them have expressed that if they can make their own choice, they would rather stay at home with some assistance provided.
